What is Workspace Virtualization?

Workspace Virtualization is a software technology that improves portability, manageability and compatibility of applications by isolating them from the underlying operating system on which they run. A fully-virtualized application can run on any PC without having to be installed first. Ceedo’s technology takes this one step further by encapsulating several virtualized applications at once, and allowing them to interact with each other in a workspace.

Why Workspace Virtualization?

Windows applications usually need to be installed in order to tie specific files and user data to the PC’s Windows file system and registry. Workspace Virtualization lets software run free from the complexities and potential conflicts that occur during installation and runtime by leaving the PC unchanged. This makes it easier for the user to obtain applications, and easier for IT to manage them.

What is the difference between Workspace Virtualization and VDI?

Unlike desktop virtualization solutions, Ceedo does not require customers to own or manage an operating system for each user, while still providing users with everything they need to do their work. A Ceedo workspace serves as a fully functional alternative to both laptops and desktop virtualization (VDI), but without any of the costs associated with desktop management or the complexities involved in maintaining expensive datacenters.

Where are Ceedo's solutions used?

Ceedo's workspace virtualization solutions are used wherever there is a business need for managing and delivering more than one application without the need to manage the entire PC. A Ceedo application workspace running on a local PC makes it easy to acquire and run new applications without impacting the existing operating system. What is Ceedo Enterprise?

Ceedo Enterprise has three components:

  • A Windows™ client running in user mode (runs even on a locked down PC where the user has no “admin” status). The Ceedo client acts as a gateway to an entire set of virtualized applications.
  • A back-end console for managing deployed application workspaces.
  • An online programs directory from which the user can add apps to the application workspace.

Using these three components, complete application workspaces are created, deployed and remotely managed. Application workspaces can have different, pre-defined applications for different groups of users. Options can be configured down to the level of the individual user.

With Ceedo, the user has a personalized rich computing environment that can be run on any PC. Because there is no software installation, it is easily migrated from PC to PC, and can be restored from a backup in minutes.
