Security Middleware Virtualization (2FA)

The Business Challenge
While 2FA solutions provide strong security, they often do so at the cost of reduced usability, because they require specific middleware (cryptographic drivers) to operate.

Two-factor authentication (2FA) solutions in the form of smart-card hardware tokens and PKI soft tokens are spreading rapidly as an essential tool in the arsenal of information security departments for enterprises, banks and national security organizations.

However, while 2FA solutions provide strong security, they often do so at the cost of reduced usability. Because they require specific middleware (cryptographic drivers) to operate, these solutions require end-users to manually install software on any new PC they need to use.

In addition, like any software application, security middleware needs to be kept up to date by and supportable by the vendor - which poses additional challenges for the back-end.

The Ceedo Solution
Ceedo Enterprise enables PKI operations for applications running from the portable Ceedo workspace on any host PC without requiring middleware installation.

Ceedo Enterprise enables PKI operations for applications running from the portable Ceedo workspace on any host PC without requiring middleware installation. With Ceedo, users can take their applications on the token flash and run them on any host PC.

A user simply plugs the Ceedo-enabled token into any host PC. User applications installed on the token execute from the device memory. Smart card-based PKI operations are accessible through the portable middleware that also runs from the device.

When the device is disconnected from the host PC, all user data is removed and no trace is left behind.

Ceedo's security middleware virtualization is an enterprise solution with full central management capabilities. All provisioning/de-provisioning of the middleware and user applications is performed using CCMS (Ceedo Client Management System). All provisioning/de-provisioning of user credentials is performed through Ceedo's system or through the vendor's own back-end software.

Benefits

  • Introduces superior usability into the process of adopting strong authentication.
  • Isolation from the host PC's existing software reduces support calls.
  • Lowers the direct costs of deployment for both hardware-based and software-based solutions.
  • Increases end-user productivity by allowing rich applications to be included.
  • Ensures the sustainability of the solution down the line.
  • Allows for a customizable end-user experience, including corporate branding.
